FAQs

What is Agile?

The Agile term, as understood today, was initially defined by the Agile Manifesto for software development.

Agile is both a framework for working and a mind-set which helps respond to changing requirements. It focuses on delivering maximum value against business priorities in the time and budget allowed.

Agile project management is an incremental and iterative approach. The goal is to rapidly provide value to the customer and deliver further value at regular intervals.

The growing popularity of agile approaches has also influenced a rise in the emphasis on business agility. Business Agility is an people-centred, organisation-wide capability, empowering businesses to add value in a world characterised by escalating volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. It is realized by inspiring and harnessing the collaborative and innovative work methods of the organization's employees.

What is Agile Project Management?

Agile Project Management is a flexible approach to managing projects which involves taking incremental steps. These small cycles that agile projects are completed in are referred to as sprints or iterations. Rather than follow a linear and predetermined path, this iterative approach allows projects to evolve as they progress and to adapt to changing requirements and feedback.

What are the benefits of Agile working and development?

An agile organisation can respond quickly and effectively to internal and external opportunities and threats (be they commercial, legal, technological, social, moral or political).

An agile organisation has the ability to:

  • Adapt quickly to market changes - internally and externally
  • Respond rapidly and flexibly to customer needs
  • Lead change in a productive and cost-effective way without compromising quality
  • Sustain a competitive advantage.

The future is unpredictable and the world and its technology changing ever more rapidly means our needs and requirements are becoming more uncertain. Businesses that embrace agility are able to adapt faster; delivering regularly, testing the environment and remaining customer focused.

What organizations and industries are using Agile approaches?

Agile operating models are now prevalent across almost all sectors and industries. Agile approaches initially first become popular in the IT and software development sectors, where regular updates and iterations of software and services are essential for organizations to establish and maintain a competitive edge.

Agile ways of working are now common in various business areas and departments including HR, Marketing and Legal.
