Certified Local Change Agents (CLCAs) play a powerful supporting role during organization-wide transformation. They understand the fundamental principles and approaches that encourage people to embrace change.

CLCAs assist organizations in aligning its entire workforce’s activities with the implemented change.

A CLCA need not enter a dedicated role – certified individuals will typically continue their BAU activities while also contributing as invaluable members of organizational change initiatives.

The Certified Local Change Agent confirms your ability to:

  • Effectively provide personal support for colleagues going through organizational change.
  • Support idea-generating activities such as the use of simple process-mapping techniques.
  • Help develop local change plans which identify what will specifically change in their work area and how best to introduce those changes.

What is a CLCA digital badge?

Digital badges allow you to easily showcase your achievements online.

When you pass an exam - you'll instantly have the option to claim a digital badge representing your new certificate.

Your badge can be embedded on an email signature, website, social media or digital CV.

With just one click employers, customers and clients can easily view and verify your credentials and skills.

How do I claim my digital badge?

Once you’ve been notified that you’ve passed your exam - you will have the option to create a digital badge in APMG's Candidate Portal.

Visit APMG's Candidate Portal, view your exam results and select 'Create Badge'.

This takes you to the Credly website where the digital badges are hosted. You will be guided through the Acclaim account creation process.

Once you have created an account with Credly - login into the account and accept your pending badge.

What is APMG International’s Certified Local Change Agent (CLCA) scheme?

The scheme offers a comprehensive set of guidance aimed at selected individuals who are facing significant change within their organization, equipping them with the knowledge, tools and techniques to support their teams and colleagues through the change process.

Upon completing of the course, the candidate will:

  • Have an understanding of organizational change;
  • Know the typical response to change and how individuals can be helped to engage and be supported through the change process;
  • Be equipped to develop appropriate learning and communication plans for change and assess the change readiness in their area;
  • Be able to help build purposeful relationships with line managers and change professionals on behalf of the work area.

The CLCA course, syllabus and exam is underpinned by the “Local Change Agents’ Handbook”.

How can I train for the CLCA exam?

Training for CLCA is available from the network of Accredited Training Organizations (ATOs) who are assessed and certified by APMG International. The full list of CLCA ATOs can be found here

Only these organizations and registered partners/affiliates are authorized to deliver CLCA training.

Do I have to receive training to sit the exam?

Yes, it is mandatory to attend an accredited training course in order to sit the CLCA exam.

How do I sit the exam?

The examination can be sat as part of the associated training course delivered by a CLCA accreditation training organization.

What is the main publication for CLCA and where can I purchase them?

The CLCA exam is based on the “Local Change Agents’ Handbook’ which will be included by the accredited training organization as part of the associated training course.

Unfortunately, candidates will not be able to purchase the handbook separately and can only get access to the publication as part of the accredited course.

How much does it cost to sit the CLCA exam?

When sitting the exam through an accredited training organization, the cost of the exam is generally included in the course fee.

Are there any pre-requisites for the CLCA exam?

Yes, the candidate must have attended an accredited CLCA training course.

Which languages is the CLCA exam available in?

The CLCA exam is currently available in English only. Further translations are likely to follow based on demand.

How long is the CLCA qualification valid for?

The CLCA qualification is not valid for a defined period and does not expire.

How does my organization become a CLCA Accredited Training Organization (ATO)?

Please note that the training organization must already be accredited as an APMG Change Management ATO in order to extend scope into the CLCA scheme.

To extend scope to become a CLCA ATO please contact the local APMG International office. Where appropriate, an invoice will be raised, and the organization will then be subject to APMG International's ATO assessment process.

How do I become a CLCA approved trainer?

All CLCA trainers must be "sponsored" by a CLCA accredited training organization (ATO). Details of all CLCA ATOs can be found here.

A trainer application must be submitted by the sponsoring ATO to their relevant APMG-International office.

What is an Internal Instructor?

The scheme allows for selected individuals within an organization to be trained as an Internal Instructor to deliver the CLCA courses within your organization only. 

The selected individual will need to be approved by the accredited training organization (ATO). The process requires the individual to undergo an assessment carried out by the ATO. The Internal Instructor upon successful completing the assessment will be able to deliver CLCA training courses to his colleagues and order exams through their assessing ATO. Please note that no certification is awarded upon being signed off as an Internal Instructor.

How do I access my digital badge and/or certificate?

You can always access all your electronic certificates and badges via the APMG Candidate Portal. Once you have logged on to the Candidate Portal, click on the ‘Badges and Certificates’ option from the menu bar at the top of screen. From here you should click on the ‘Create Badge/Certificate’ button. This will take you to the Credly platform to create and account and download your badge and certificate.

Step-by-step guidance is available to download from the ‘Badges and Certificates’ area in your Candidate Portal.

Electronic certificates are environmentally friendly, but you can print the certificate yourself at home or work, if required.

Can I earn PMI® PDUs for attending an accredited training course?

It is possible to earn PMI Education PDUs for attending third-party provider training (training courses not offered by a PMI Authorized Training Partner), as long as the training meets the requirements around the skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle. Please check the PMI website (https://www.pmi.org/certifications/certification-resources/maintain/earn-pdus/education) for further details on how to record your PDUs and what supporting evidence is required.
