The Forest Garden Training Center (FGTC) is an anytime, anywhere online training resource center for development practitioners. FGTC was developed by Trees for the Future in response to global pressure to combat poverty, hunger, drought and the migration crisis across Africa.

The Forest Garden Certification provides an easily deployable and replicable solution to end hunger, poverty and deforestation by planting Forest Gardens. It is suitable for:

The Forest Garden Certification is available online at www.apmg-exams.com. The certification has been priced to make the cost affordable to staff working for NGOs anywhere in the world.

What is a Forest Garden Certification digital badge?

Digital badges allow you to easily showcase your achievements online.

When you pass an exam - you'll instantly have the option to claim a digital badge representing your new certificate.

Your badge can be embedded on an email signature, website, social media or digital CV.

With just one click employers, customers and clients can easily view and verify your credentials and skills.

How do I claim my Forest Garden Certification digital badge?

Once you’ve been notified that you’ve passed your exam - you will have the option to create a digital badge in APMG's Candidate Portal.

Visit APMG's Candidate Portal, view your exam results and select 'Create Badge'.

This takes you to the Credly website where the digital badges are hosted. You will be guided through the Credly account creation process.

Once you have created an account with Credly - login into the account and accept your pending badge.

Who should take this certification?

Individuals who work in the Development sector, such as community and project leaders, development agents, extension personnel, missionaries, volunteers.

How do I sit the exam?

In order to make these as accessible and as affordable as possible, the Forest Garden Certification exam relies on honesty and the professional conduct of the candidates. You can sit the online exam wherever you will be undisturbed for the duration of the exam and have access to a reliable internet connection. When you register for the exam, you will be asked to nominate an individual, for example a senior manager in your organization, to invigilate / proctor your exam.

Any allegations or suspicions of dishonesty will be investigated. If the claims are justified, the candidate will be barred from taking further APMG certifications, and, at the discretion of the examination board, the candidate's employer may be sanctioned, which may entail requiring candidates from that organization, in the future, to sit exams at an approved test centre, which would incur additional cost.

How much does it cost to sit the Forest Garden Certification Exam?

The price of the Forest Garden Certification Exam is dependent on the location of the candidate and the location of the NGO they are working for:

  • For staff of local NGOs working in the developing world and Students in the developing world the cost is $22 USD per exam.
  • For staff of international NGOs working in the developing world and staff of government ministries the cost is $60 USD per exam.
  • For all others, including, but not limited to, HQ-based staff of international NGOs, staff of multi-lateral and bi-lateral agencies or consultants, the cost is $145 USD per exam.

Are there any prerequisites for the Forest Garden Certification?

There are no prerequisites to apply for the Forest Garden Certification.

What are the publications that support the Forest Garden Certification?

The supporting Forest Garden Certification publications can be accessed via the Training Trees website. 

Which languages is the Forest Garden Certification Exam available in?

The Forest Garden Certification Exam is currently available in English, French and Latin-American Spanish.

How long are the Forest Garden Certifications valid for?

The certifications do not expire.

How do I access my digital badge and/or certificate?

You can always access all your electronic certificates and badges via the APMG Candidate Portal. Once you have logged on to the Candidate Portal, click on the ‘Badges and Certificates’ option from the menu bar at the top of screen. From here you should click on the ‘Create Badge/Certificate’ button. This will take you to the Credly platform to create and account and download your badge and certificate.

Step-by-step guidance is available to download from the ‘Badges and Certificates’ area in your Candidate Portal.

Electronic certificates are environmentally friendly, but you can print the certificate yourself at home or work, if required.

Can I earn PMI® PDUs for attending an accredited training course?

It is possible to earn PMI Education PDUs for attending third-party provider training (training courses not offered by a PMI Authorized Training Partner), as long as the training meets the requirements around the skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle. Please check the PMI website (https://www.pmi.org/certifications/certification-resources/maintain/earn-pdus/education) for further details on how to record your PDUs and what supporting evidence is required.
