Learning about the Strategy Implementation Professional online course and certification
I have been recently interested in strategy execution, digital transformation and change management. Having worked in project management in various roles for more than 15 years – project planning and scheduling, risk management, project controls, contracts management – I was keen to explore further the link between project delivery and company strategy. The occasion presented itself just before a five-day national lock down due to the pandemic. During a webinar hosted by ADVISORS on the 21st of June, Dr. Saadi Adra - the founder of ADVISORS - hosted Antonio Nieto-Rodriguez, co-founder of the Strategy Implementation Institute, and Mark A. Langley, former PMI president and CEO. The new Strategy Implementation Professional (SIP) course and certification from the Strategy Implementation Institute in partnership with APMG International were announced.
Registering for the online course
I immediately registered for the online course, which I planned to take during the national lockdown. It was one way to undertake some serious up-skilling and a personal development challenge.
And what an amazing course it is. It reminded me of my MBA classes and includes papers, articles, presentations and videos by some of the most brilliant practitioners, thinkers, speakers, authors and CEOs of our time
Taking the Strategy Implementation Professional exam
With regards to the certification, I figured out - with the material fresh in my mind - why not dive head-first into the exam. I had finished the course in five days – from the 23rd until the 27th of June. With testing centers closed worldwide, it was not possible to register to take the exam with APMG International before Friday the 29th at night. I passed the Strategy Implementation Professional exam that evening and received the certification badge a few hours later. One of the implications of taking this interesting course is that the list of strategy and management books that I now have to go and find has swelled significantly.
The exam was administered by APMG International and the experience was extremely smooth, with a lot of support from my exam’s proctor. I feel that the SIP certification is a particularly valuable addition to my project management and risk management experience and certifications. I highly recommend the course and certification to my project management colleagues!
