Validating digital, IT and cyber security skills against the SFIA framework

SFIA Foundation & APMG International launch SFIA digital badges initiative

In our increasingly digital world, it’s important that individuals operating in the digital, service management and cyber security landscape can demonstrate skills and competencies.

The SFIA Foundation and APMG are delighted to announce the launch of an official digital badge scheme for all individuals who have demonstrated a defined level of knowledge or competence against the SFIA Framework.

A common language for skills in the digital world

SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) defines the skills and competencies required by professionals who design, develop, implement, manage and protect the data and technology that power the digital world.

Since its launch in 2000, SFIA has provided individuals and organizations a common language to define skills and expertise in areas such as information and communications technology, digital transformation, data science and analytics, software engineering and cyber security. The use of clear language – avoiding technical jargon and acronyms – makes SFIA accessible as people in supporting roles such as human resources, learning and development, organisation design, and procurement.

The design and structure of SFIA makes it a flexible resource with a proven track record of being adopted and adapted to support a wide variety of skills and people-management related activities. It has been adopted by governments, corporates and individuals in almost 200 countries and has been translated into 12 languages.

Introducing SFIA digital badges

Digital badges have become increasingly popular in recent years as an indicator of an individual’s accomplishments that can be displayed and verified online.

Individuals who have had their knowledge, skills or competency verified by an approved SFIA Assessor against the SFIA Competency Framework can now claim digital badges to showcase their credentials.

Knowledge, skill and competency-based assessments and digital badges are available for each of the 121 skills defined by SFIA. SFIA digital badges are issued by Credly – a leader in the digital credential movement – on behalf of APMG and SFIA Foundation.

Richard Pharro, CEO of APMG International said “With the way the world of work is changing, standard role profiles are hard to define as every organisation is different. For a person to be recognized for their individual portfolio of knowledge, skills and competency, allows them to stand out in the global search for talent.”

Ian Seward (Operations Manager of the SFIA Foundation) said “Skills are the universal currency throughout a persons’ career and the digital skills gap a universal issue for the world’s economies to address. The collaboration of the world’s trusted accreditation and examination body and the global common reference framework for digital skills and competencies, built by industry itself, can enable both to be addressed.
