APMG International are excited to announce a new certification about Design Thinking (DTMethod).

Launching in partnership with Inprogress Design Lab, this new certification will pave the way for organisations to improve their product or service design and improve the success of project delivery.

Inprogress Design Lab and APMG envision a world where anyone can be responsible for finding a solution or defining a project to deliver the goods or service. This certification aims to empower anyone to use the Design Thinking (DTMethod) Framework worldwide especially in roles such as User Journey designers, Project Managers, Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches and Facilitators.

User Design present a crucial element to any product or project, and now defines an exact science to understand how a user thinks, and uses principles which aim to anticipate this behaviour and designing a solution which amplifies the project or products goals. Design Thinking is analytical and creative; both are skills and competencies needed for today’s world of work.

The DTMethod provides you with the skills to be creative and solve problems using data. By using the DTMethod organisations will increase the use of design methodology at either the product or project design stage to help deliver successful outcomes.

“This new initiative between APMG and Inprogress Design Lab provides a comprehensive guide for organisations and individuals to enhance their design and user journey. By applying a structured process to solving challenging problems and helping people develop their creative thinking skills  your teams will be able to generate a number of ideas and use evidence-based decision making  before selecting the right solution. This could transform your project successes” says Richard Pharro, CEO, APMG International.

Set to Launch in March, this brand-new certification for design thinking is particularly well suited to work with any project management approach, and provide individuals with certifications relating to the following defined roles:

  • Design Thinking Sponsor (DTS)
  • Design Thinking Team (DTT)
  • Design Thinking Designer (DTD)
  • Design Thinking Coordinator (DTC)
  • Design Thinking Facilitator (DTF)

How does Design Thinking Method work?

Seven design thinking principles form the backbone of this methodology:

  • Focus on people: the designed solutions meet all stakeholders needs
  • Team Involvement: designers have the space (time and physical) to design;
  • Evidence-based approach: action based on proven knowledge, not on intuition and beliefs;
  • Stepwise approach: DTMethod has a proven set of phases
  • Iterative approach: based on the results earlier steps can be repeated for better results
  • Active approach: act quickly and do not stagnate
  • Learning approach: every success and every failure provides  lessons. Successes and failures are feedback and failures are not to be feared.
