Companies with large inventories of hardware and software face a continual struggle of maintaining a knowledge of all of their IT assets.
Tools Are Not Enough
These assets not only represent a sizeable financial investment, but can also be the cause of problems such as data loss or being out of regulatory compliance.
To help manage this, companies have invested in tools which automate the collection of data on the installed base of hardware and software. While not a perfect solution, these tools go a long way towards identifying the assets on a company’s network. The data generated by these tools is complex and voluminous and is critical to understanding the organization’s IT ecosystem.
But is this enough? Is identifying installed assets sufficient as an IT asset management solution? Or are trained people and best practices required in addition to software tools before you have a robust ITAM program?
In this 5th instalment of our IT Asset Management webinar series, we explore whether deploying a software tool is sufficient or whether it should only be a part of a more comprehensive IT asset management program.
Our guest speaker for this webinar was Mr. Terry Divelbliss. Terry is the Sr. Vice President, Marketing and Technical Alliances at Eracent, a leading provider of software tools for IT asset discovery, software optimization, and software vendor license management.
