Experience Design (XD)

Experience design is a new industry discipline; a niche skillset designed to bring together a complex mix of design disciplines creating a more holistic and full-circle approach in engineering memorable experiences.

To help develop and prepare the industry for the right best practice skills and methodologies and to grow careers within this rapidly growing competency, Immersion Group’s training unit and APMG have developed the XD Practitioner certification.

There are 3 course modules :

·  Staging Experiences

Who is it for?

The XD Practitioner certification is for those who want to implement or understand Experience Design and workflows. It is aimed at those who wish to obtain the knowledge, skills and ability to become an XD Practitioner. It is particularly relevant to:

  • Industry professionals, newcomers and career-changers who want to break into and learn Experience Design
  • Existing designers and those who wish to enhance their skills for a greater future in the experience or design industries
  • Upskillers who want to better understand the world of experience design in order to improve their personal performance or that of their team
  • Traditional roles including UX designers, UI designers, service designers, customer experience designers, product designers, product owners, product managers and business analysts

What is involved?

  • Self-paced, self-study e-learning course providing flexibility to study and develop in your own time
  • 3 course modules can be completed in as little as  9 days.
  • Upon completion of the course participants purchase an online APMG exam (which is remotely proctored and can be taken from anywhere providing it meets requirements including WiFi signal etc).
  • Successful candidates earn a digital certificate and a dynamic digital badge, which can be shared online to securely prove their credentials.

Applying for certification also involves becoming a member of Common Ground; a global community of Experience Design practitioners.

How much does it cost for XD Practitioner online training and certification

Individual course modules: £325 each (Receive a digital APMG badge on completion of each course module, valid for 6 months)

  • Full course + Exam: £1100 (£975 + £135) (Receive the APMG XD Practitioner digital badge to prove your certification credential on completion of the exam)

Do I have to receive training to sit the exam?

Yes, training is mandatory. There are 3 online training modules (Envisioning the Experience, Blueprinting Experiencescapes and Staging Experiences) which candidates can work through at their own pace. How can I train for the Experience Design Practitioner examination?

Training for Experience Design Practitioner is available from Immersion Group: https://immersionlearn.co.uk/courses/. The self-paced online training is divided into 3 modules: Envisioning the Experience, Blueprinting Experiencescapes and Staging Experiences.

 

How do I sit the exam?

The Experience Design Practitioner exam can be taken anywhere in the world, from the comfort of your home or workplace, with online proctoring.  A proctor will access your exam as you take it to monitor the exam environment through your computer's desktop, webcam and microphone.

 

Once you have booked an exam, you will be given a registration email to schedule an appointment with your live proctor via our Candidate Portal. Our online proctoring system allows you to take your exam anytime as sessions are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. How much does it cost to sit the Experience Design Practitioner examination?

Each of the 3 training modules cost £325 (excluding tax). Once you have completed each module you will be provided with a digital badge to show that you have completed the course. The cost of the Experience Design Practitioner exam is £135 (excluding tax). Therefore, the total price to complete the course and exam is £1,110.

 

Are there any pre-requisites for the Experience Design Practitioner examination?

Candidates do not need to purchase any books as the Experience Design Practitioner course is not supported by any publications. 

Which languages is the Experience Design Practitioner examination available in?

The Experience Design Practitioner exam is available in English.

How long will it take to learn the Experience Design Practitioner material?

For individuals self-studying it is almost impossible to say. As all candidates have different experience and amount of time available for study, it varies from person to person. However, the recommended study time is 3 days per training module.

What is the structure of the Experience Design Practitioner examination?

The structure of the Experience Design Practitioner examination is below:

  • Complex multiple choice
  • 4 questions, each worth 20 marks
  • 2½ hour duration
  • Pass mark: 80% (64 out of 80 marks)
  • Open book (candidates can use any reference materials during the exam)

Can I take any books or supporting materials into the exam?

Yes, candidates can use any supporting or reference materials during the exam.

Is there a sample paper that I can practice on?

Yes, all candidates can access a sample exam paper to practice on via the Candidate Portal. Access to the Candidate Portal is given once you have purchased the exam.

 

How long is the Experience Design Practitioner certification valid for?

The Experience Design Practitioner exam does not expire.

When can I expect the results of my Experience Design Practitioner examination?

A provisional mark will be provided on-screen at the end of your exam. APMG will issue formal notification of your exam result via your Candidate Portal within 2 working days of your exam.

When will I receive my certificate?

Candidates will be able to claim their electronic certificate and digital badges from within the Candidate Portal within two business days of their exam results being released. Step-by-step guidance is available to download from the ‘Badges and Certificates’ area in the Candidate Portal.

Electronic certificates are environmentally friendly, but can be printed if required. It is also very easy to share them with employers and other third parties.

 

How do I access my digital badge and/or certificate?

You can always access all your electronic certificates and badges via the APMG Candidate Portal. Once you have logged on to the Candidate Portal, click on the ‘Badges and Certificates’ option from the menu bar at the top of screen. From here you should click on the ‘Create Badge/Certificate’ button. This will take you to the Credly platform to create and account and download your badge and certificate.

Step-by-step guidance is available to download from the ‘Badges and Certificates’ area in your Candidate Portal.

What is the pass mark for the Experience Design Practitioner examination?

The pass mark for the Experience Design Practitioner examination is 64 out of 80 (80%).

 

Can I use the Experience Design Practitioner logo?

Individuals are not permitted to use the Immersion Group logo, however, all individuals who pass the exam are awarded with a digital badge which can be shared on social media and embedded into your CV/resume.

How can I advertise myself as a certified Experience Design Practitioner on my business card?

Candidates who have passed the Experience Design Practitioner examination can put that they are Certified in Experience Design on their business cards.

 

Can I earn PMI® PDUs for attending an accredited training course?

It is possible to earn PMI Education PDUs for attending third-party provider training (training courses not offered by a PMI Authorized Training Partner), as long as the training meets the requirements around the skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle. Please check the PMI website (https://www.pmi.org/certifications/certification-resources/maintain/earn-pdus/education) for further details on how to record your PDUs and what supporting evidence is required.
