Mazen Housseiny, Head of Programs at Syria Relief wins Alan Harpham Award

1st December 2016

APMG is pleased to announce that Mazen Housseiny has won this year’s Alan Harpham Award, in recognition of his distinguished work as an advocate for project management, in the international development and humanitarian sectors.

Mazen has also been recognized for his work with those who are most in need and for collaborating with a range of stakeholders in the sector such as community-based organizations or local non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

The award is named in honour of Alan Harpham, former Board Member of PM4NGOs and Chairman of APMG, and a global citizen dedicated to making this sector and community a better place.

Mazen has worked with several Syrian capacity-building NGOs to conduct Project Management in Development (PMD Pro) training to a variety of aid workers, based both in Turkey and Northern Syria. Many of those training sessions were free of charge, to support Community based organizations (CBOs) with limited funding.

His work has targeted the aid workers that are working in the besieged areas in Syria, such as Rural Damascus, North of Homs and Aleppo, via webinar and Skype sessions. This training has encouraged other Syrian capacity-building NGOs to establish training centers inside Syria, bringing it line with the training available in Turkey.

In his previous work with Save the Children and CARE, Mazen supported the partners throughout their PMD Pro 1 training sessions. This included the development of appropriate tools such as the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP) which combines both RACI and Gantt charts - part of the PMD Pro Guide. Project team members can now clearly define responsibility and accountability for each activity on DIP, minimizing any misunderstanding.

Mazen is now working as Head of Programs with a Syrian Diaspora NGO, Syria Relief. The charity is based in the UK and has a clear aim in Syria: ‘Relieving the suffering: Supporting the future’. Almost all the program and project managers in this organization have attended the PMD Pro 1 training.

APMG is happy to extend its congratulations to Mazen on being the recipient of the prestigious Alan Harpham Award.
