Top skills employers look for

Remain relevant in the workplace

Advances in technology have impacted the way in which we work and transformed the way organizations operate and connect with their customers. As technology seeps into every part of the enterprise, businesses are revolutionizing job roles. Look out for the Scrum Master (Facilitator), Customer Delight Team Lead (Customer Services), Digital Overlord (Web Master), Chief Dot-Joiner (Project Manager), Culture Guardian (HR) and Conversation Architect (Sales). All of these are traditional roles with a modern skills reboot.

To remain relevant, you need to keep your personal competency up to date with new trends, knowledge and skills.

Who are the most employable people?

Hiring managers (Talent Officer) and HR professionals (Culture Guardians) now look deeper than purely experience and education. They want a person with a breadth of skills, good cultural fit and ‘that little something’ that differentiates them from the next candidate.

Identify the gaps in your skillset

To identify your skill gaps look first at your own competencies. Start by identifying your strengths, then concentrate on key areas to develop to enhance your relevance and value.

As the professional world races forward, there is an expectation that individuals will rapidly embrace modern practices such as remote working, digital processes and automated capabilities. Constant change becomes the norm and abilities such as agility, self-management, collaboration, leadership and communication are an expectation as part of our personal offering.

Once you have established your unique capabilities, you can start ‘building your own self’.  As well as your strengths, learn what your weaknesses are and look to develop in these areas. For instance, though an accomplished engineer may be proficient academically, they may struggle with building professional relationships and conveying messaging in a way that people can understand and embrace.
