People who have worked (and are working) in an Earned Value Management environment for a period of two years. This will include a wide range of people working on Earned Value based projects including project managers, control account managers, project planners and project analysts.

What is an Earned Value digital badge?

Digital badges allow you to easily showcase your achievements online.

When you pass an exam - you'll instantly have the option to claim a digital badge representing your new certificate.

Your badge can be embedded on an email signature, website, social media or digital CV.

With just one click employers, customers and clients can easily view and verify your credentials and skills.

How do I claim my Earned Value badge?

Once you’ve been notified that you’ve passed your exam - you will have the option to create a digital badge in APMG's Candidate Portal.

Visit APMG's Candidate Portal, view your exam results and select 'Create Badge'.

This takes you to the Credly website where the digital badges are hosted. You will be guided through the Credly account creation process.

Once you have created an account with Credly - login into the account and accept your pending badge.

What is Earned Value Management?

Earned Value Management is a project control process based on a structured approach to planning, cost collection and performance measurement. It facilitates the integration of project scope, time and cost objectives and the establishment of a baseline plan for performance measurement.

The establishment of a Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) is essential to conducting successful EVM and consists of:

Defined scope and assumptions
Activities scheduled in logical sequence
Resources / costs (labour and materials)

APMG-International have developed a qualification scheme working in partnership with the Association for Project Management (APM) Earned Value Specific Interest Group.

How can I train for the Earned Value Management examinations?

Training for Earned Value Management is available from the network of Accredited Training Organizations (ATOs) who are assessed and certified by APMG-International. Details of Earned Value Management ATOs can be found via the APMG-International accredited organization search function or click here.

Only these organizations and registered partners/affiliates are authorized to deliver Earned Value Management training.

Do I have to receive training to sit the exams?

No, however attending an accredited training course is recommended.

Individuals also have the option of self-study to prepare for the examinations by purchasing the core text from APMG Business Books. APMG-International administer online exam sessions, allowing those who self study the opportunity to sit an online exam from the comfort of their own home or office. Our online proctoring system allows you to take your exam anytime as sessions are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. How do I sit the exam?

Accredited Training Organizations (ATOs) usually include the examination as part of their training course – please check with your ATO before booking.

For those who self-study, the exam can be taken anywhere in the world, from the comfort of your home or workplace, with online proctoring.  A proctor will access your exam as you take it to monitor the exam environment through your computer's desktop, webcam and microphone.

Once you have booked an exam, you will be given a registration email to schedule an appointment with your live proctor via our Candidate Portal. Our online proctoring system allows you to take your exam anytime as sessions are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For more information, please click here.

How much does it cost to sit the Earned Value Management examinations?

If you are sitting the examinations through an accredited training organization, the cost of the exam is generally included in the course fee. APMG-International use a global pricing structure, so for those sitting exams at a public exam centre, the cost is dependent on where the exam is being sat. Are there any pre-requisites for the Earned Value Management examination?

There are no pre-requisites for the foundation examination. Candidates must pass at foundation level prior to taking the practitioner exam.

Candidates will also need to agree to the Terms and Conditions prior to sitting their examination. 

What is the main publication for Earned Value Management and where can I purchase it?

Our Earned Value Management qualification scheme has one main supporting publication called Earned Value Management Handbook. This can be purchased from APMG-Business Books.

Which languages is the Earned Value Management examinations available in?

The Earned Value Managment examinations are currently available in English only. Translations are considered based on demand.

How long will it take to learn the Earned Value Management material?

For individuals self-studying it is almost impossible to say. As all candidates have different experience and amount of time available for study, it varies from person to person. We suggest you buy the manual and have a look through for yourself before deciding how long you need to spend learning.

For those studying with an accredited training organization, foundation courses are typically delivered over 2-3 days, with combined foundation and practitioner courses typically delivered other 5 days. We recommend investigating with individual providers, as many will offer tailored and blended learning solutions.

How long is the Earned Value Management certification valid for?

The certifications are not valid for a defined period and will not expire.

When can I expect the results of my Earned Value Management examination?

Foundation examinations can be marked on location after the exam, but this is down to the discretion of the invigilator at the time. Official confirmation will follow from your ATO (or directly from APMG if you self-studied).

Practitioner answer sheets are marked at APMG-International offices and results released soon after. Your result will be sent to your ATO approximately 7-10 days after your exam date. Your ATO should notify you of your results so please contact them for further details.

If you did not take your exam through an ATO, your results will be sent directly to you via APMG approximately 7-10 days after the date of your exam.

When will I receive my certificate?

Candidates will be able to claim their digital badge and electronic certificate from their APMG Candidate Portal within two business days of their exam result being issued.

What is the pass mark for the Earned Value Management examinations?

Foundation: Candidates must achieve a score of 26/40 (65%) to pass.
Practitioner: Candidates must achieve a score of 40/80 (50%) to pass.

What pass mark is required to be eligible to become an Earned Value Management trainer?

To be eligible for an Earned Value Management trainer application, individuals must achieve a score of 66% (53/80) in the practitioner exam.

How do I become an Earned Value Management approved trainer?

All Earned Value Management trainers must be "sponsored" by an Earned Value Management Accredited Training Organization (ATO). Details of all Earned Value Management ATOs can be found via the APMG-International accredited organization search facility or here.

A trainer application must be submitted by the sponsoring ATO to their local APMG-International office.

Can I use the Earned Value Management logo?

Only organizations licensed to do so are allowed to use the Earned Value Management logo. Such organizations include Earned Value Management ATOs (Accredited Training Organizations) and registered partners accredited by APMG-International. The APMG-International Earned Value and Swirl Device logo is a Trade Mark of APM Group Ltd and must not be used without prior permission or an appropriate license.

All individuals who pass the Earned Value exams are awarded with a digital badge which can be shared on social media and embedded into your CV/resume. Please log into your Candidate Portal to claim your digital badge.

How does my organization become an Earned Value Management Accredited Training Organization (ATO)?

An organization wishing to become an Earned Value Management ATO must first submit an application form to either the APMG-International Service Desk or their local APMG-International office. Where appropriate, an invoice will be raised and the organization will then be subject to APMG-International's ATO assessment process.

How do I access my digital badge and/or certificate?

You can always access all your electronic certificates and badges via the APMG Candidate Portal. Once you have logged on to the Candidate Portal, click on the ‘Badges and Certificates’ option from the menu bar at the top of screen. From here you should click on the ‘Create Badge/Certificate’ button. This will take you to the Credly platform to create and account and download your badge and certificate.

Step-by-step guidance is available to download from the ‘Badges and Certificates’ area in your Candidate Portal.

Electronic certificates are environmentally friendly, but you can print the certificate yourself at home or work, if required.

Can I earn PMI® PDUs for attending an accredited training course?

It is possible to earn PMI Education PDUs for attending third-party provider training (training courses not offered by a PMI Authorized Training Partner), as long as the training meets the requirements around the skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle. Please check the PMI website (https://www.pmi.org/certifications/certification-resources/maintain/earn-pdus/education) for further details on how to record your PDUs and what supporting evidence is required.
