PM4NGOs and APMG are pleased to announce that the 2017 Alan Harpham Award recipient is Terver Kuegh, Project Management Specialist at Action Against Hunger Nigeria, an organization operating in Nigeria since 2010.

The Alan Harpham Award was created in 2015 to honor individuals who stand out in promoting project management professionalism in the development sector. The award is named in honor of Alan Harpham, former Board Member of PM4NGOs and Chairman of APMG, a global citizen dedicated to making this sector and community a better place. The Alan Harpham Award recipient should demonstrate commitment in advancing project management best practices through PMD Pro. All candidates must fulfill more than one of the criteria: innovation, impact, and promotion of access.

Action Against Hunger is a leading organization in the fight against hunger in the North East, working to prevent and treat severe malnutrition and achieve nutrition security through an integrated, holistic, multi-sectoral approach.

Growing demand required that Action Against Hunger increase its staff and capacity to meet the needs, which also required a substantial amount of capacity building for the new team members. Terver Kuegh utilized an online methodology known as the PMD Pro Flex for the mass dissemination of PMD Pro knowledge and tools to team members. The methodology consists of interactive delivery methods such as: videos, e-learning modules, structure readings, and collaborative assignments for which participants earn points allowing them to progress through each level in the course.

“Learning PMD Pro this way made it easy to update senior management on the progress of each participant. This increased the commitment of participants and fostered organizational buy-in.” Terver Kuegh

The impact Terver made through this innovative implementation of PMD includes:

  • Organization: PMD PRO Flex enabled Action Against Hunger Nigeria organizational policies and processes to be blended into the course. This meant tailoring PMD Pro to the needs of the organization. The approach significantly reduced the cost of the courses allowing more funding to actions towards beneficiaries. Besides that, PMD Pro implemented a culture of interactive learning experience.
  • Organization Staff: The PMD Pro implementation received excellent feedbacks from the staff. According to them, the tools are very helpful, they are really adopting the PMD Pro templates and “the course is an eye opener for both present and future project/program managers in Action Against Hunger”.
  • Beneficiaries: Action Against Hunger is applying the PMD Pro guidelines to improve its projects, for example: after learning PMD Pro tools, one of Action Against Hunger’s project fast tracked its activities to save over $1 million worth of project resources thus ensuring that more beneficiaries were covered.

“I never knew I could get a world class certification from doing a course entirely on my mobile phone”. Raymond Iortim, staff of Action Against Hunger
